And we tend to forget another important element when grilling or smoking, that element is BBQ Rub. My BBQ Rub can recipe can make your meats stand out, and take it to a high level of deliciousness.
What is Dry Rub?
A Dry Rub is a mixture of dry seasonings such as, salt, spices, and sugar that is applied to the surface of any meat or fish prior cooking, which forms a coating on the food.
The food can be cooked immediately after it is coated in the rub, or can be marinated in the dry rub for some overnight to allow the flavor to incorporate into the food.

There are many BBQ rubs on the market today, and countless homemade BBQ rub recipes online.
In general BBQ Rub recipe has three main parts.
- Salt – It is a very important ingredient in the Rub, it helps infuse every ounce of the meat with flavor.
- Sweetness Element – It is achieved by using sugar. you can use a combination of regular sugar and brown one it elevate the quality of your rub.
- Spices – It the heat and color kick in: garlic, onion, cumin, chili and paprika. I use two different paprika. sweet paprika for mainly for color, and smoked one on the other hand adds a great smoked flavor in the rub.
My secret ingredients are cinnamon and cocoa powder. The cinnamon brings in a lit hint of smokiness taste that people can’t identify when trying it, but keep coming back for more and more. The cocoa powder element is the perfect earthy flavor to balance the sugar. When it comes to a great BBQ rub balance is very crucial.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, and ground
- 1/4 cup salt
- 1/2 cup paprika, or more for color
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 2 teaspoons cumin
- 2 teaspoons black pepper
- 1 teaspoon white pepper
- 1 teaspoon cayenne
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon cocoa powder
